Two active journalism funding opportunities are currently available for eligible journalists and reporting teams. Applicants should note that the programmes have very different geographical and thematic requirements.
1. Journalismfund Europe – European Cross-border Grants
Opportunity type:
Investigative journalism grant
Focus:
Cross-border investigations and research on European topics
Who can apply:
Cross-border teams comprising at least two professional journalists and/or independent local or national news outlets from at least two different European countries.
At least 80% of the requested budget must go to journalists or media organisations from European Union countries. Team members from outside Europe may participate when relevant to the proposed investigation.
About the grant:
The programme supports original, in-depth cross-border investigations with strong news value and relevance to European audiences.
Eligible costs may include:
- Travel required for journalistic research
- Translation
- Access to paid databases
- Time needed to conduct the investigation
- Other directly related research expenses
The programme does not normally support fixed office expenses, cameras, computers or general production costs.
Additional support:
Applicants may also request assistance from a project adviser or subject-area expert to strengthen the quality and accuracy of the investigation.

2. IWMF Fund for Indigenous Journalists

About the programme:
The fund supports U.S.-based reporting projects examining violence affecting Indigenous communities, including stories concerning Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, Women, Girls, Two-Spirit and Transgender people.
The initiative encourages reporting that centres Indigenous voices, avoids stereotypes and gives Indigenous journalists meaningful editorial and decision-making roles.
Support may include:
- Financial assistance for reporting
- Editorial guidance
- Assistance with pitching completed work
Application deadline:
Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.

The proposed reporting project must be based in the United States and focus on the programme’s stated Indigenous reporting themes.
