UNESCO is inviting applications for the position of Consultant – Media and Communications Specialist at its Bangkok duty station.

The role is with UNESCO’s Division for Communications and Public Engagement. The consultant will support UNESCO Bangkok’s media and communications work, including communication strategy implementation, speechwriting, digital and social media engagement, content development, public outreach and media visibility.

The selected consultant will contribute to strengthening UNESCO’s regional visibility, stakeholder engagement and communication of programme results across the region.

Key responsibilities

Develop and support communication and external engagement strategies.

Draft and edit press releases, media materials, op-eds, feature stories, reports and human-interest stories.

Prepare speeches, talking points, briefing notes and key messages for senior leadership.

Support UNESCO Bangkok website and social media platforms.

Coordinate media relations, interviews, press briefings and visibility efforts.

Support communication campaigns, advocacy initiatives, events, regional forums and public engagement.

Monitor communication performance and emerging reputation risks.

Required qualification

Advanced university degree, master’s or equivalent, in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.

Experience required

Minimum 5–7 years of relevant professional experience in communications, public relations or journalism, including strategic advisory experience.

Skills required

Strong English writing and communication skills.

Experience in content development, media relations, digital communications and communication strategy.

Strong coordination and project management skills.

Languages

Excellent spoken and written English required.

Knowledge of another official UNESCO language is desirable.
