The University of Utah’s Undergraduate Journal of Contemporary Issues and Media is accepting submissions for an issue centred on democracy and the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.
Eligibility
- Undergraduate students from any college or university
- Students from any academic discipline
Accepted formats include academic research, essays, opinion and nonfiction, personal narratives, oral histories, creative writing, podcasts, music, soundscapes, visual work and other multimodal submissions.
Suggested areas include democratic ideals, voting rights, free speech, generational and cultural perspectives, institutions, media’s role in supporting or constraining democracy, and practices that may help democratic discussion thrive. The journal states that work on other topics may also be considered.
Submission deadline: 1 September 2026
Notification: End of September 2026
Indicated publication date: Spring 2028
