Applications are open for the Karsh Journalism Fellowship 2027.
The nonpartisan programme helps journalists develop informed, accurate and independent reporting on Jewish communities and issues in the United States and worldwide.
Up to ten journalists are selected annually.

Who Can Apply?
The fellowship is open to early- and mid-career journalists from different professional and personal backgrounds who work on any journalistic platform.
Applicants must:
- Be US citizens or possess valid work authorisation permitting employment in the United States throughout the fellowship
- Be able to attend all three in-person retreats
- Participate in monthly one-hour Zoom sessions
- Complete a reported project concerning a Jewish topic
- Publish or produce the completed work
Journalists living outside the United States are not eligible unless they possess valid US work authorisation satisfying the programme’s requirements.

Selected fellows receive:

Programme Schedule
The current official schedule is:
- Online orientation: 16 December 2026
- New York City retreat: 14–17 January 2027
- Online session: 10 February 2027
- Washington, D.C. retreat: 19–21 March 2027
- Online session: 20 April 2027
- Los Angeles retreat: 29 April–2 May 2027

Reporting Project
Every fellow must undertake a reported project relating to a Jewish story, community or issue.
The topic is selected by the fellow and, where relevant, their editor. The fellowship does not control the editorial outcome.
The completed project must be published or produced within nine months of the beginning of the fellowship.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide:
- Personal and current employment details
- A 200–800-word explanation of why they are applying
- A description of their experience with Jews, Judaism and Israel
- A proposal identifying an underreported or misunderstood Jewish story, issue or community
- An explanation of how they would approach the reporting
- An updated résumé
- Two journalistic work samples
- Details of two professional references
- Confirmation that they can attend every retreat and online session
- Confirmation that they will complete a relevant reporting project
