The selected journalist will produce original video journalism for Chinese-speaking audiences across the BBC website, social media and other digital platforms.

About the Role
The Video Journalist will be based in the BBC’s Taipei office and report to the News Editor.
The journalist will work with colleagues in Taipei, Hong Kong and Beijing to research, film, edit, present and publish original video stories.
Content may include breaking-news videos, interviews, explainers, social-media videos and original reports produced for different digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate original video-journalism ideas
- Develop stories from initial research to publication
- Conduct interviews and gather original footage
- Film, script and edit high-quality video reports
- Produce fast-turnaround news videos and explainers
- Use agency footage, social-media material and other appropriate sources
- Present confidently on camera in the studio and on location
- Produce short-form content for Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts
- Create content in simplified and traditional Chinese
- Adapt BBC content for different platforms and audiences
- Ensure compliance with editorial, technical and safety standards
- Conduct risk assessments when required
- Contribute to the development of BBC Chinese’s website and digital strategy
Essential Skills and Experience
Applicants should have:
- Excellent written and spoken Chinese at first-language or equivalent level
- Strong English-language skills
- Proven experience producing and editing digital video
- Experience in digital newsgathering, filming and editing
- Strong editorial judgement
- An understanding of impartial and accurate journalism
- Ability to convert complex subjects into engaging video content
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving newsroom
- Ability to meet tight editorial deadlines
- Knowledge of platform-specific video formats and audience behaviour
- Ability to adapt video length, format and storytelling for different social platforms
- Confidence working collaboratively with journalists and production colleagues
Technical Skills
Candidates should be familiar with professional video-production and newsroom tools.

Knowledge of live streaming, outside broadcasts and emerging media technologies would also be useful.
On-Camera Requirement
The selected journalist may be required to present BBC Chinese journalism on camera, both in the studio and on location.
