Applications are open for the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant 2026, an international opportunity supporting young and emerging photojournalists.
The programme was established in memory of British photojournalist Ian Parry, who died while covering the Romanian Revolution in 1989 at the age of 24.

Who Can Apply?
The competition is open to:
- Photographers aged 24 or below
- Photographers of any age enrolled in a recognised full-time photography course
- Applicants from any country
Candidates may be asked to provide proof of age or full-time student status.
What Does the Recipient Receive?
The selected recipient will receive:
- £10,000 towards the proposed photography project
- Payment in two instalments of £5,000
- Loan of Canon photography equipment for one year
- Year-long professional mentorship with photographer Giles Duley
- An assignment connected with the Legacy of War Foundation
- Eligibility for the Hamburg Portfolio Review
- Opportunities for publication and professional exposure
- Promotion through the grant’s international photography network
One selected recipient will also receive the Gentex Corp Personal Safety Award, which includes protective equipment and hostile-environment training.
Save the Children will select one of the longlisted photographers for a paid professional photography commission. The commission includes a professional fee, travel expenses and mentoring.
Submission Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- One project per submission
- A portfolio of 12 photographs
- Project title and description
- Accurate captions for every image
- A clear proposal explaining the project to be undertaken with the grant
- Proof of age or full-time photography education, where applicable
- A detailed project description of up to 1,000 words
- A project summary of up to 100 words
Image Requirements
Images should:
- Be submitted as high-resolution JPG files
- Have a minimum long edge of 2,500 pixels
- Be prepared at 300 dpi in RGB colour
- Be suitable for professional printing
- Represent the applicant’s original work
Photographs must not be misleadingly staged or digitally manipulated. All submissions must comply with the grant’s documentary-photography code of ethics.
Selection Process
An international panel of photography professionals will review eligible submissions. The judges will consider the strength of the applicant’s previous work and the potential of the proposed project.
Projects may address areas such as:
- Social change
- Humanitarian concerns
- Armed conflict
- Environmental issues
- Political and cultural concerns
- Public health
- Science and society
- Human rights
- The shared human condition
