The Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) is accepting applications for a part-time Tech Assistant internship.

The selected candidate will support the development, testing, maintenance and documentation of GFMD’s technology systems, with particular attention to its customer relationship management system and membership workflows.

GFMD is an international community supporting media development, media freedom and journalism. Its network brings together member organisations and partners working to sustain journalism as a public good.

About the Role

The Tech Assistant will work with the GFMD team to develop, test and maintain its technology stack.

A major part of the role involves helping GFMD staff use Odoo for organisational functions such as managing prospective members and subscribers from initial registration through payment, onboarding and access to member or subscriber content.

The assistant will also work with GitBook, WordPress and other tools used to document workflows, test systems and improve GFMD’s digital operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the setup of Odoo modules, including Project, CRM and Email Marketing
  • Identify suitable plugins and integration options
  • Maintain documentation of technical dependencies and configurations
  • Record tests, workflows, findings and system changes
  • Report technical issues, bugs and recommendations
  • Assist with quality assurance and user-acceptance testing
  • Help resolve technical problems within GFMD’s technology stack
  • Prepare clear guidance and documentation for staff
  • Support improvements to audience engagement and membership-growth systems

Required Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • Experience using Odoo
  • Strong documentation and organisational skills
  • Ability to identify technical problems and communicate findings clearly
  • Ability to work remotely and manage an independent workload
  • Excellent written communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience would be advantageous:

  • Experience using Advanced Custom Fields
  • Understanding of membership, subscription or user-access systems
  • Familiarity with payment systems such as Stripe or Mollie
  • Experience supporting website launches or migrations
  • Experience with membership or subscriber programmes
  • Interest in journalism, media development or non-profit organisations
  • Familiarity with WordPress plugins and content-management workflows
  • Experience working with WordPress websites and CRM platforms
